May 2024 Qtum Development and Community Updates

Bridged USDC is almost here

Bridged USDC Banner

The Qtum team has completed the development of the bridge infrastructure, which Certik has audited, and Sayfer has audited the MetaMask Snap portion of the bridge. No major security issues were found, and all low or medium issues have been addressed.

Bridged Sepolia USDC has been successfully bridged to Qtum Testnet using a "sideloaded" MetaMask Snap wallet, and the team is working on getting their audited MetaMask Snap bundled into the greater MetaMask Chrome extension.

Once testing is completed, we can start bridging Circle USDC back and forth between Qtum Testnet and Ethereum Sepolia and bring this to the mainnet. This will effectively bring the USDC stablecoin to Qtum using Circle-provided “Bridged USDC Standard” smart contracts, with an audited bridge and audited MetaMask Snap wallet.

Long story short, you will be able to bridge Circle USDC between Qtum and Ethereum very soon!

The Testnet Faucet has been updated

Testnet

We recently fixed an issue with the Qtum Testnet Faucet where most users were unable to access the web frontend. We updated an SSL certificate and upgraded the server to prepare for an expected traffic increase due to developers accessing USDC on Qtum. We may even plan out a fun community event that takes place on the Qtum test network. If you’d like to grab some testnet tokens, you can visit the faucet here: https://testnet-faucet.qtum.info/

If you don’t want to download the entire block data for the Qtum QT, it’s possible to use Foxwallet in Qtum Testnet mode: FoxWallet Official Website.

Qurate to earn meme contest

In case you missed it, let us fill you in: Qtum recently announced the acquisition and onlining of 10,000 Nvidia GPUs to power AI initiatives. These include:

  •   Qtum Solstice: A conversational chatbot akin to ChatGPT, is based on open-source models. This alpha deployment will engage users in helpful and intelligent dialogue.

  • Qtum Qurator: A text-to-image generation model similar to Midjourney, also based on open-source models. This utility allows users to generate images that typically require tedious work in image manipulation software applications.

To celebrate Qtum’s AI launch, we are holding a meme contest, the theme of which is MEME CITY.

The contest started on May 14th and will end on June 14th. To win a prize, you must prove you have a Qtum wallet with enough gas to cover the transaction fees.

Reward pool: $2,100 in QTUM

You still have a few days to enter the contest! Explore Qtum's new AI open-source model, Qtum Qurator. You can use any of the image generation models available on Qurator as a background and incorporate them into your final project.

Join our Discord, go to the dedicated channel, and see the participation rules and reward distribution: Qtum Discord.

Consensus 2024

As always, we attended Consensus 2024 to learn about the industry and had so much fun! Here are a few pictures to show you what it was like.

That’s it for May. We are excited to keep working on the ecosystem. This first half of the year has been jam-packed for the team, but as always, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Warm Regards, The Qtum Team.
